While the majority of business is conducted online, there are occasions when we must rely on paper, and proper disposal is crucial. Piles of discarded sheets occupy an unwarranted amount of space in disposal containers, making it most ergonomic to shred paper into smaller, more manageable pieces. Rather than doing that manually, you should invest in a paper shredder.
What is a paper shredder?
These are machines that tear sheets of paper into little strips or bits within seconds. So, how do you choose the appropriate paper shredder? That will depend first and foremost on how sensitive your printed data is and, therefore, how much security you need. We offer all three types: strip-cut, cross-cut, and micro-cut....
Strip-cut shredders: (ribbon-cut, spaghetti-cut, or straight-cut) work quickest, but the print on their resulting long, narrow strips is often still legible. They create around 40 strips for every piece of A4 paper and can only cut vertically.
Cross-cut shredders: (confetti-cut, particle-cut, or diamond-cut) offer more security because they create between 200 and 400 short, narrow pieces per sheet. They meet the minimum requirement for shredding confidential documents such as bank statements.
Micro-cut shredders: (security-cut shredders) are safer than both types because they generate between 2,000 and 6,000 bits for every page, but they take longer. They’re the best option for highly sensitive records, such as contracts and government reports.
All shredders require maintenance and oiling. Most of the paper shredders we carry are available as manual models, which are fed every piece of paper by hand or automatic ones that take sheets themselves.
To pick the right model, you must consider how quickly you need them to operate and how much material you need to shred, as that will determine sheet capacity. Connection offers home, office, and industrial shredders, with home ones having the lowest sheet capacity at a maximum of 20 sheets per pass. Your wastebasket load requirements and how often you need to use the shredder will affect run-time requirements.
Lastly, you’ll need to factor in your budget and the amount of space you have. With this information, we can help you select the correct model to meet your requirements. Connection has a wide variety of all three shredder types, and we’re well-positioned to advise you on which model will best serve your organization’s needs. You need to protect your company and client information, and we’ll help you do just that.
