Much like some people we all know, computers can have better long-term memory than short-term. That’s because the short-term memory of a computer is governed by its RAM chip, and sometimes its memory isn’t quite up to the tasks that you’re setting. To be more specific, RAM remembers tasks that your computer is completing at the moment—allowing you to switch quickly from tab to tab without your computer laboriously chugging through your entire hard drive every time it needs to complete an operation.

Computers running out of RAM can severely impact end users in ways that range from subtle to full-on day ruining. On the minor side, too little RAM in a computer can cause screen freezes, lag when typing, or other strange computer interactions that leave people frustrated.
